Harper did not enjoy the royal wedding.
She was especially ticked that Her Majesty, the Queen wore the same color as her.
She prefers to be the only trend-setter around here.

Yes, that is my baby reading.
Oh you think she is amazing?

Good Girl
Harper had her best night yet!
She slept from 8:00pm until 2:45am. Almost seven hours! She ate and then slept from 3:30 to 6:00. You see, this is our hardest time, she usually sleeps about 5 hours then wakes up every hour after that, eventually becoming wide awake between 5:00 and 6:30. But today, she went back to sleep from 6:30 to 8:00. She did great!
And I got a grand total of ...(drum roll please)... SEVEN hours of sleep! That is the most sleep I've gotten since she was born. It was wonderful!

Advanced
Look! Harper has learned how to wave.
I knew that she was a genius! Such advanced skills for a baby.

More Cousins!
Harper met her Texas cousins, Jordan & Jared, for the first time this weekend.
I'm pretty sure they loved her instantly =)
(and she loved them too)

Daddy's home!
Harper loves to play with her daddy when he gets home from the fire station.
He snapped this smiley face during their morning conversation today.

Lucky find
We hadn't found anything that says "Pops" until Harper and I found this onesie at the mall.
We hope Pops likes it!

5 weeks
Harper is 5 weeks old today. Here are a few tid-bits of information about her:
Harper went on her first major shopping trip today. To the mall! She was a perfect little girl.
She smiles at Kevin & I. She likes Kevin's version of peek-a-boo, kisses on her cheeks, and that blow-on-babies-belly thing. You know what I'm talking about.
She lets us know when she has a dirty diaper. And she isn't subtle about it.
Her eyes are getting bigger and bluer by the day.
Her favorite things are eating, sleeping, swinging, going outside, riding in the stroller, looking at the ceiling fan in the living room, interrupting us at exactly the moment we sit down to eat, and just being so darn cute!

Uncle Joey
Harper loves her Uncle Joey. He's good at keeping her happy.
I dread the day when he teaches her how to get into the sugar jar, but for now I will enjoy how content she is with him.

Naptime
When Harper sleeps (or is content by herself), I spring into action. I run to the washer and start a load of clothes, scramble around the house picking up, scour the refrigerator for a quick meal, or when I'm lucky, jump in the shower praying she doesn't wake up.
I just never know when she's going to be needy or want to be held. And before I learned to use my time so wisely, there were many days when the only things I accomplished were changing dirty diapers, rocking, feeding, bathing, or entertaining the baby. Now, I am learning to get my 'chores' done early so that I can take care of her without a nagging in the back of my mind, telling me how dirty my house is or how full the hampers are.
On very special days, I find time to have some fun also. Granted, my projects take a bit longer to complete, but I enjoy my time nonetheless. Here are two I finished recently:

I've said before that nothing in our house is safe from rosettes. I just can't seem to stop myself.
Harper's bubble dress
Matching bow
Harper doesn't like it. Can ya tell?

Grrrr
I don't know if this face means "Don't you dare take my picture" or if it means "Get me out of this swing, right this instant"
But whatever it means, it sure is cute!
Cousin Caleb
This was Caleb's first time to hold Harper (and maybe a baby in general, I can't be sure).
He was oh, so sweet!

It's official....
...she's a real American.
Harper's social security card came in the mail this week.
It's still strange seeing her name in print. It means that she's actually a little human being.

One thing after another...
Last week, we planned to have Harper's baby portraits taken. As I've said before, she did NOT want to cooperate. I told you that she cried, wiggled, fussed, etc. We were all stressed out trying to get her to work with us. She just wouldn't have it!
In all the crying, Kevin got called into the station for a grass fire. He had to leave immediately. But he had brought all of his gear home for the pictures (you'll see what I mean soon). So we were all scrambling around the house rounding up all of his gear as he loaded it into the truck.
He kissed Harper and I goodbye and took off. Keep in mind, Harper is still screaming and crying at this point. And I, who intended to be in some of the shots, am covered in puke.
When he got in his truck he saw the photographer, Anna's, car parked behind him. And instead of asking her to move it, he decided to maneuver around it. Just as he was almost clear, CRUNCH goes the gas meter.
So now we have a crying baby, a puke covered mama, a ticked off daddy, an overwhelmed photographer, and a leaking gas meter.
It was about this point that we decided to reschedule our photo session.
As always, everything worked out in the end: the next day's photo session was 100 times better, Kevin was home by dark, my clothes are wash & wear, the gas man fixed the meter and agreed not to record the leak on our bill (due to minimal brown-nosing on my part) and we have all agreed not to mention or look at the scratch on Kevin's truck.

Zzzz
I've got TWO sleeping babies in my car today.
I guess riding in a car has the same effect on Avery as it does on Harper!

Best Idea Ever
This past week Kevin & I had our best idea yet.
You see, we have been tired lately, VERY tired. Harper is a good nighttime sleeper for the most part, but she has days (or nights, I should say) when she doesn't cooperate with our wishes. And even on the nights that she does cooperate, she still wakes up to nurse. So our sleep as been effected; which is to be expected for new parents.
So I had been saying that 'one of these days' I was going to sleep every time that she slept, for an entire day. I was just going to take nap after nap after nap and not worry about getting anything done. Well, I finally did it. And Kevin was so supportive of my idea that he took the day off and joined me.
It was fabulous. The three of us did not get out of bed for anything. Besides getting food, drinks, changing a diaper, etc. We enjoyed some mindless TV, a few good movies (including the new version of The Karate Kid, which was surprisingly good), got plenty of sleep and felt totally revived & rejuvenated the next day.
I highly recommend a "do nothing" Day for any new parents out there. You will be glad you did! Or should I say "glad you didn't"!

Fail
Harper did NOT stay asleep for her portraits.
In fact, she did everything BUT sleep.
She fussed, cried, grunted, wiggled, squirmed, flailed and pouted.
Needless to say, we rescheduled.

Sleepy
Harper is having her baby portraits taken today. We are hoping she stays asleep for a while for the cute sleeping pictures.
